Frequently Asked Questions about the summer reading program.

How many books do I have to read?
It depends on your school.
  • For West Orient Middle School you need to complete at least six reading activities from the summer reading passport. The quantity of books you read is dependent on the activities you choose.
  • For Deep Creek Damascus you need to complete at least five reading activities from the summer reading passport. The quantity of books you read is dependent on the activities you choose.
  • For Dexter McCarty Middle School, Clear Creek Middle School, and Gordon Russell, the quantity of books you read is dependent on how quickly you read because for every 60 minutes you read, you fill in a circle on the Multnomah County reading game board or the Clackamas County summer reading board.
Do I have to participate in a summer reading program?
Do you go to one of the following schools: Deep Creek Damascus or West Orient MS?

Do you go to McCarty MS, Gordon Russell MS, Clear Creek MS?

What should I read?
Anything of interest. Please check the library resources, summer reading website for reading ideas. You can read magazines, blogs, newspapers, novels, cookbooks, video game manuals, etc. JUST READ!

For the summer reading passports can I do the same activity more than one time?
Any of the "worksheet" type activities like Madlibs can only be completed one time. The other activities can be completed more than one time; however, please demonstrate completion of each activity separately.

Do I have to do an assignment for every activity I do from the summer reading passport?
Yes, you need to demonstrate the activity you completed. Be creative! If you read picture books to siblings, cousins, or kids you babysit, take a picture. If you use a cookbook to make a recipe for your family, have your family write a review. If you listen to an audiobook, create a comic strip of the plot. You choose the activity, and you decide how you will show it off!

I lost my summer reading passport.  Can I get a new one?
Yes, visit the library resources page on your school website.
Click on summer reading.
Click on your school logo.
Click on the summer reading passport.
Look at or print the pages you need.

Can I get a new game board from the Multnomah County library or my local library?
